How I met HER… Klassy (Interview)

“How I met HER…” is the interview series powered by Lady on the MIC
1. Introduce yourself. Who are you, where are you from and what do you do in life.
My names Graciela Moreno and I’m also known as Klassy. I was born in the Philippines, on Dec. 13 1996 and I was raised in Los Angeles, California. I’m on my second year as a student currently attending VAPA HS.
2. How you met H.E.R.? How did you find Hip-Hop, or how did Hip-Hop find you? Share some memories about that? When and why did you decide to make music yourself?
I had cousins that really loved Hip Hop. They’d always bump Big L, Souls of Mischief, Wu Tang, and I remembered them always rapping along to the lyrics. Basically, during that time, I got myself into lots of trouble, and I soon came to realize I needed a way to keep myself off the streets. My friend Rolondo, who I later found out he was emcee, took me to my first studio; JUiCE – a non-profit weekly hip hop arts program and that’s where it all started. I recorded my first couple tracks there and met so many amazing, talented people. I was hooked, and that’s where I discovered my love for Hip Hop.
3. What do you want to say with your music? What is your message? Can you live from your music already? What are your future goals?
Simply, I only see it as an outlet. It’s way for me to express – a way for me to share my experiences, ideas, and feelings. I love music, why not make it ! The messages in my songs I want people to get, is that you’re not alone, love your life, love yourself, stay positive, and just push forward through the toughest times. I honestly don’t have future goals, I just want to continue making music and if people like, or can relate to it, then..that’s a bonus for me.
4. In your opinion, what is the key to success?
In my opinion, the key to success…is having a focused mind.
If you love what you do, if you have a dream, if you have a goal, don’t let anyone get in the way of it. Just be true to yourself, stay humble, and remember that there’s ALWAYS room for improvement.
5. Your shout out to the other Ladies living Music.
I personally think, whether you’re a girl or guy doing Hip Hop, we all deserve the same attention…as an MC not because of our sex. Maybe at times, you can say it’s easier or harder for a girl to be in the game, but if she can bring it, if she has that strive and passion for it.. then that’s where it’s at. BUT YES ! Much respect to all the femcees doing their thing!
